Floating Offshore Wind

Vantris Energy, with its subsidiary Peritus International (www.peritusint.com), has extensive capabilities in Floating Offshore Wind (FOW). Our expertise encompasses a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the complex needs of such projects. Our proficiency enables clients to thoroughly evaluate floating developments. This includes screening, hydrodynamic (motions), stability, structural and mooring analysis and dynamic cable analysis across all project phases, including Operations. Leveraging our extensive knowledge and experience in dynamic analysis, we deliver innovative solutions that excel in challenging environmental conditions and varying water depths. Our team can manage the entire process, from subsea cable system design, seamless installation, operation, and decommissioning, ensuring the highest standards of performance and reliability for FOW developments.

Vantris Energy provides services for clients in analysing floating structures and their associated mooring systems for FOW. The analysis can occur either during early screening or as specialised analysis during FEED and execution.

Floating structures:
  • Global configuration – static design, quasi-static, dynamic and installation analyses
  • Preliminary sizing of floating structures, their mooring and associated riser system
  • Strength, Hydrodynamics (motions) and stability of floating structures
  • Interpretation of the environmental conditions and subsea layout in combination with the hydrodynamic results for floating structures, their mooring and riser systems to determine the most appropriate system architecture (hull, riser and potential subsea architecture)
  • J- and I-tubes
  • Analysis of umbilical and power cable cross sections
  • Hang-off / connection system options
  • Mooring analysis
  • Fatigue and VIV analysis
  • Ancillary systems:
    • Bend – stiffeners, restrictors, bell-mouths
    • Hold down tethers and clamps
    • Buoyancy modules / tanks and mid-water arches
    • TLP tendon connectors

ORE Catapult - Dynamic Cables

ORE Catapult established the Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence (FOW CoE), aiming to reduce  the Levelised Cost of Energy, reduce development time, and foster  local supply chain opportunities, driving innovation in manufacturing, installation, and Operations and Maintenance methodologies in FOW.

Peritus was contracted to develop various project configurations relevant to UK and Ireland FOW development sites. The objective was to evaluate, review and develop requirements for dynamic cables, connections, bend stiffeners, buoyancy modules and other ancillary equipment based on several “representative” project configurations. These specifications serve as a guide for OREC, its partners, and cable and ancillary manufacturers to estimate sizes and costs for potential projects, and identifying areas requiring further development  Simultaneously, Peritus undertook a review covering dynamic inter-array cables, connectors, ancillary equipment, and supply chain relevant to FOW in the UK and Ireland. After assessing the current state of the art,  innovative gaps, risks, and supply chain opportunities were identified and presented.
